Navigator and Coach Capacity Building

The NCTN is a nationally-recognized leader in developing and promoting the role of college and career navigators and career coaches at the center of programs that foster student persistence and success. Our face-to-face and online training programs for college and career navigators have been offered in 25 states to hundreds of frontline staff and administrators in adult education and workforce development programs. The training has supported statewide scale-up of career pathways and integrated education and training initiatives.

Navigating Pathways Online Training Series is designed for college and career navigators, coaches, advisors, and case managers who provide direct support and coordinate a comprehensive network of services to assist adult students in attaining their educational and career goals.

  1.  Finding True North: The Role of the Navigator is a free, self-paced, 3-hour course. Enroll here.
  2.  Navigating Pathways to Opportunity is a tuition-based, facilitated, 24-hour course. It is available to cohorts of 12 or more participants recruited by a state or institution. View this information sheet to learn more.

Connecting Adults to Success Study
NCTN’s Navigating Pathways Training series is one of  just two nationally-recognized trainings selected for Connecting Adults to Success: Evaluation of Enhanced Career Navigator Training, conducted by Mathematica for the U.S. Department of Education. The study will examine whether providing training to career navigators might improve adult learners’ educational and workforce outcomes.

Customized Training Design
Close to four hundred career coaches working in secondary and postsecondary programs have completed a Career Coach Certification Online Course that NCTN wrote for the Virginia Community College System to standardize approaches to coaching across all college access grant programs. Read about the Virginia Career Coach Certification Program.

We also offer training for trainers for states and institutions scaling up a navigator or coach initiative and offer a College and Career Navigator Trainer Manual.
