Alexis Cherewka, Senior Technical Advisor

Alexis’s work at NCTN focuses on how adult educators and adult education programming and programs can support adult learners in achieving their economic, civic, and linguistic objectives.

Her recent projects have included the following:

  • Co-developing written resources, training, and technical assistance for the Enhancing Access for Refugees and New Americans project, a national leadership activity to build capacity for Integrated English Literacy and Civics Education programming.
  • Co-leading the development of IET Strategies in Action briefs for ADVANCE IET project, a federal initiative to enhance IET programing.
  • Supporting Ability to Benefit (ATB) projects, including the Dual Enrollment for Adult Learners project, a federal initiative to expand usage of ATB for adult learners.
  • Exploring how adult education administrators define and report distance and digital education under the Adult Education and Family Literacy Act.

Prior to arriving at World Education, Alexis taught English and adult literacy, conducted research on topics of U..S. and international adult education, and supported capacity-building efforts for English teachers in the U.S. and abroad. She has a B.A. in International Politics/Spanish from Penn State University, a TESOL Certification and M.A. in Applied Linguistics from the University of Pittsburgh, and PhD in Lifelong Learning and Adult Education and Comparative and International Education from Penn State University.
