The National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) provides statistical information on a variety of issues for educators, planners, and policymakers. National Assessment of Adult Literacy (NAAL)

This new study, “the 2003 NAAL,” notes changes in the literacy skills of the nation’s adults between 1992 and 2003. Several documents are available on the site, including shorter versions called “A First Look” and “Key Concepts and Features.”
Several commentaries have emerged that address the NAAL, including a NAAL Summary by COABE and the National Adult Education Professional Development Consortium http://www.naepdc.org/about_NAEPDC/NAAL.html.
