National Center for Education Statistics (NCES)

The National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) provides statistical information on a variety of issues for educators, planners, and policymakers. The first link on this page is a portal to the postsecondary information available. The second is one of the most important ongoing surveys sponsored by the center.

This Web page provides short descriptions of the various national data sets that focus on postsecondary education with links to the homepage of each data set.

National Assessment of Adult Literacy (NAAL)
http://nces.ed.gov/naal/
This new study, “the 2003 NAAL,”  notes changes in the literacy skills of the nation’s adults between 1992 and 2003.  Several documents are available on the site, including shorter versions called “A First Look” and “Key Concepts and Features.”
Several commentaries have emerged that address the NAAL, including a NAAL Summary by COABE and the National Adult Education Professional Development Consortium http://www.naepdc.org/about_NAEPDC/NAAL.html.
