Ann Niemiec, Director Lewiston has been a part of the New England ABE-to-College Transition Project since its inception in January 2000. Three 12-week sessions are held each year with varying schedules. Both day and evening sessions are being offered. The program includes academic preparation, study skills, and computer training components as well as career counseling and mentoring. Approximately 50 adults are served annually. Follow-up is conducted with students who have completed the program and entered college. Lewiston is partnered with the University of Southern Maine Lewiston-Auburn College, the University of Maine at Augusta, and Central Maine Community College. The colleges provide campus tours and workshops. Students from these colleges or graduates of the College Transition Program serve as mentors. Lewiston Adult Education is located in the Androscoggin Valley in central Maine. Classes are held in over twenty Lewiston locations. At the largest location, Lewiston High School, students have access to nine computer labs and to PLATO, a computer managed learning system. Laptops are also used at off-site locations. Recently, online learning opportunities have been added. Collaborating Colleges: University of Southern Maine Lewiston-Auburn College University of Maine at Augusta Central Maine Community College |
