Boston-area Adults Graduate from
College Pathways Program

Twelve adults who never expected to go to college were honored this week at Action for Boston Community Development (ABCD) for completing the ABCD College Pathways higher education preparatory program, which gives them the tools to succeed in their pursuit of a college degree. This unique, 14-week evening program combines classroom instruction and one-on-one tutoring to strengthen students' skills in language arts, mathematics and computers. Counselors help with the entire college application process, from identifying appropriate schools to attending college tours and applying for financial aid. The program also offers workshops in study skills and stress management.

ABCD Vic President for Workforce Development Mark Isenburg explained that "This program is a vital first step for those who are struggling to find work, move up in their current job, or are in search of a new occupation. In today’s competitive job market, a college degree is quickly becoming necessary to qualify for a position that pays a living wage and provides a career ladder."

The Nellie Mae Education Foundation through World Education, Inc. has funded the College Pathways program since 2001.  Students who have successfully completed the program have gone on to the Urban College of Boston, Bunker Hill Community College, and Bryman Institute, among others.

College Pathways is currently accepting applications for its Feb program.  High school graduates or those who have received GEDs are eligible for this free college preparatory program.  Call Edward Downie at 617.357.6000 x7533 for more information.
