Recruitment and Enrollment

STRATEGIES FOR RECRUITMENT

  • Have an informational table at all GED Testing Sites to provide information about the program. If it's at all possible, arrange to make an announcement about the program before the test. See sample flyers.
  • Ask Adult Basic Education providers within a realsitic geographic radius to include a letter inviting recent graduates and students close to graduation to apply to the program.
  • Contact all Adult Basic Education providers within the area and conduct informational sessions for their GED classes before each GED Test.
  • Develop a referral system with local ABE Program Directors.
  • Contact all community-based organizations in the area and develop a referral system.
  • Contact One-Stop Career Centers and provide information about the program to career counselors.
  • Work with the local Education Opportunity Centers (EOCs) for referrals.
  • Contact local health clinics and advertise the program.
  • Contact local public schools in areas where parents need continued education:
    1. Advertise the program at school events that involve parents.
    2. Display flyer in a public space for parent information.
    3. Include information about the program in school newsletters.
  • Contact all local faith-based organizations and distribute information on an on-going basis.
  • Advertise the program in local neighborhood newspapers, radio stations, and cable access stations.
  • Develop a database to document and track where recruitment is taking place and where recruitment/enrollment is most successful.
  • Work with collaborating college(s) for referrals.
