Mentoring

The goal of the ABE-to-College Transition Project is not only to prepare adult learners for the rigors of college course work, but also to help them successfully complete a degree program. College mentors provide the support, guidance, friendship, and understanding that nontraditional adult learners need during their college years.

What is mentoring?
Mentoring describes a learning relationship, usually between two individuals where the mentor has either experience or expertise in a particular area and provides information, advice, support, and feedback to the partner.

Each tab on the left contains information on a specific aspect of developing and maintaining a mentoring program along with materials that can be tweaked to fit your program's needs. The information in this section was carefully selected from a variety of resources including the internet, books, articles, and two programs, the Community Education Project and Sumner Adult Education, participating in the ABE-to-College Transition Project. Some materials have been created or adapted specifically for the ABE-to-College Transition Project. Others are geared towards young adults but can be adapted to fit your program's needs. If you have any materials you would like to add to the website, just click on "Email Us" down below.
