Not
all students learn best by taking notes and then memorizing them.
Some students learn best just by listening, others by doing.
Some of the programs offer their transitional students a learning
styles inventory. This is helpful to both the instructor and
the students. By knowing the learning styles of their students,
instructors can tweak their lesson plans so that the learning
needs of their students are met. Students benefit from taking
this inventory because it empowers them to take an active role
in their learning. They can approach their instructor and request
more help and in a form that is geared to their particular learning
style.
Felder Inventory

The Index of Learning Styles is an on-line instrument used to
assess preferences on four dimensions (active/reflective, sensing/intuitive,
visual/verbal, and sequential/global) of a learning style model
formulated by Richard M. Felder and Linda K. Silverman. This
web site contains the ILS questionnaire that is automatically
scored along with a handout of descriptions of the different
dimensions.
Vark Inventory
http://www.vark-learn.com/english/index.asp
VARK is a questionnaire that provides users with a profile of
their preferred learning styles. These preferences are about
the ways that they want to take-in and give-out information whilst
learning. You can do the questionnaire online or download the
form. If you answer the questionnaire online, the form will automatically
be scored. If you use the paper version, be sure to download
the scoring sheet as well.
